CEO Lufthansa Hub Munich
Since 1 November 2015, Thomas Winkelmann has been acting as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hub Munich and will be in charge of the southern Lufthansa hub. In this function, he will be responsible for the following areas in the new group structure: commercial management, station management, ground infrastructure and processes, and hub development. Winkelmann is also responsible for the operative planning and steering of all flights to and from Munich. Thomas Klühr, who was previously in charge of the Munich hub, will move to Zurich as CEO of Swiss International Air Lines.
Thomas Winkelmann was born in Hagen in 1959. He studied Linguistics and Ancient History at the Free University Berlin and at Münster University. Following his state examination, he became a postgraduate in Business Administration at the Free University Berlin. In 2004, Thomas Winkelmann successfully completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in Boston. During his career, Thomas Winkelmann has held a range of responsible management positions, including at the Deutsche Reisebüro GmbH and at Kaufhof AG. In 1998, he joined the Lufthansa Group and took over various senior management positions for Lufthansa in the USA: he began as Head of Area Management for Latin America and the Caribbean, and from September 2000, he held the position of Vice President of the Americas at the New York HQ for the entire Lufthansa organization in North and South America. This included responsibility for all operative functions, sales, marketing, and airports. From 1 September 2006, Thomas Winkelmann was appointed to corporate management at Germanwings as spokesman for the executive board.
Thomas Winkelmann is married and has two children.
