Royal Air Maroc appears to have selected the Boeing 737 Max for its fleet, according to customer insignia on the airframer’s first flight-test aircraft.

The initial 737 Max 8 carried out its maiden flight at the end of January.

Its livery featured 58 logos along its fuselage from Max customers, not all of which have been formally listed in Boeing’s backlog data for the type.

These include several Chinese operators – such as Xiamen Airlines andKunming Airlines – which have declared intentions to acquire the re-engined type.

RAM has been undergoing a fleet-modernisation programme which has included introducing the 787 for long-haul operations.

But last August it flatly denied to Flightglobal that it had opted to take the 737 Max, insisting it had “not selected” the aircraft – despite reports to the contrary.

Boeing has identified 47 customers in its 737 Max backlog which comprises orders for 3,072 aircraft. The 737 Max is exclusively powered by the CFM International Leap-1B engine.
