In the presence of his Excellency the Maltese Prime Minister Dr. Joseph Muscat low-cost carrier easyJet and Lufthansa Technik AG signed a substantial base maintenance contract in the Maltese capital Valletta. More than 100 of the airline’s A320 family will be serviced by Lufthansa Technik Malta during the next five years.
Ian Davies, easyJet Director of Engineering, commented on the signing of the contract: “Based on our experience with Lufthansa Technik in Berlin, russels, Budapest, Milan and Sofia and the cooperation we recently started at the Gatwick Airport, we are convinced of the quality of the base maintenance services we can expect from Lufthansa Technik Malta.”
Marcus Motschenbacher, CEO of Lufthansa Technik Malta, adds: “We are delighted about the new contract. It expands our partnership with one of the world’s leading low-cost carriers and strengthens our market position. This contract is of major importance for our facility. More than 100 employees will work directly or indirectly for easyJet aircraft. It will allow us to increase the workforce by at least 50 new colleagues.”
Stephan Drewes, Lufthansa Technik Vice President Production Network Aircraft Base Maintenance, underlines: “We are very happy that easyJet awarded Lufthansa Technik with the base maintenance of their fleet. This is an important contract for the entire network with works to be performed in our facilities in both Sofia and Malta.
