A historical British aircraft that was one of the first regular visitors to these lands in the 1970s will go on display in Sharjah.
The front section of the iconic long-distance Vickers VC10 aircraft, built in 1969 for East African Airways Corporation, has made its final journey to Al Mahatta Aviation Museum.
The aircraft’s cockpit, cabin and cargo will be on display at the museum to showcase the iconic plane to aviation enthusiasts. The aircraft touched down in the UAE and other Gulf countries many times when it was in service.
Manal Ataya, director general of Sharjah Museums Department, said: "The arrival of the VC10 adds another chapter to the story of aviation in the UAE, and in particular Sharjah, from where the first commercial landing took place in October 1932 at Al Mahatta Airport."
Known for its ability to operate in hot climates, only 44 VC10s were made, despite it being second only to Concorde in the time taken to cross the Atlantic.
