A delegation of British veterans traveled aboard Aeroflot today to the Russian city of Arkhangelsk to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first Arctic convoy. During World War II, British ships escorted merchant vessels to Arkhangelsk and Murmansk in order to deliver essential supplies to the Soviet Union. Today’s delegation consists of 20 veterans and accompanying family and friends, including two senior veterans aged 95.

The delegation arrived from London, with a stopover in Moscow. Aeroflot ensured the veterans traveled in maximum comfort, allocating additional staff to escort the veterans, organized a welcome in the Business Class lounge, and ensured a smooth transfer and priority luggage service.

As Russia’s leading airline and the country’s flag carrier, Aeroflot always seeks to extend a special courtesy to the older generation that bore the hardships of the war and sacrificed for future generations. Among other activities, Aeroflot annually offers complementary travel for veterans to participate in World War II anniversary celebrations.
