The last of The Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) trials before the launch on October 29, 2018, has been completed at Istanbul New Airport, which is set to become the world’s largest airport under one roof.

Three Turkish Airlines planes were used in the test conducted with 3,000 people.

The ORAT process, one of the most significant elements prior to an airport commences operations, continues in full gear at Istanbul New Airport. After the seven-month training that started in March 2018 and was completed at the end of September, the extensive trial operations for ORAT have been completed. A total of 1,000 people in the first trial and 3,000 people in the second trial pretended to be arriving or departing passengers from and to Istanbul to test the operational flow of the airport.

For the second trial organised with 3,000 people on October 16, a total of three Turkish Airlines planes –a wide-body (A330) and two 738 models – landed at Istanbul New Airport. The trial has been successfully completed with the participation of the stakeholders taking part in the airport’s operation process. Approximately 2,000 employees from public institutions as well as 9,000 baggage items were integrated in the process. This trial was the final one before the launch on October 29.

Within the scope of ORAT, which has been ongoing for over two years with the participation of experts from Copenhagen and Incheon Airports, 1,000 faux passengers, 2,000 baggage items, two real planes from Turkish Airlines, and 50 people from Ground Service Equipment were used at the first trial organised in September.
