The second terminal of the Imam Khomeini airport will open in Iran, Abbas Akhoundi, the Iranian Road and Urban Development Minister, said.

"Iran's aviation industry has been affected most of all as a result of the international sanctions," the minister said in the parliament Oct. 6, Iranian news website khabaronline reported.

"There are 67 airports in Iran," the minister said. "Only 43 of them operate."

"The investments have not been made in Iran's navigation system for 11 years," he said. "The investments have not been made in the Tehran Mehrabad Airport with annual passenger traffic of 10 million people for 40 years."

He said that Iran needs $ 250 million investments to upgrade the navigation system of the country.

"The number of international flights in the airspace of Iran has increased from 500 to 1,000 a day following the events in Ukraine," the minister said.

It is planned to open a second terminal of the Imam Khomeini airport in ten months, he said.

"With the opening of the terminal, the number of passengers will double," the minister said.

Abbas Akhoundi, the Iranian Road and Urban Development Minister, was invited to the parliament of the country by 13 Iranian MPs to give the report.

The MPs demanding a report from the minister, explained their dissatisfaction with the fact that Akhoundi doesn't cope with the job responsibilities, cannot control the ministry, and that there are shortcomings in he construction of roads and in urban construction, and that he doesn't provide housing for rural residents, while the ministry has financial irregularities.

Earlier, in May 2015, Akhoundi was already invited to the parliament of the country by request of 24 Iranian MPs.
