A communications equipment outage was causing delays in flight arrivals and departures Saturday night at airports in New York City and New Jersey, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The problem was affecting area air traffic control facilities, FAA officials said, adding that technicians were working to restore the system.
Arriving flights at JFK International were experiencing delays of an average of two hours and 30 minutes, the FAA said. Departures are being delayed for nearly two hours.
The outage is creating delays of nearly three hours for inbound flights to Newark Liberty International and as long as two hours for departing flights.
