Air Serbia, the national airline of the Republic of Serbia, has established one-stop air connections between Belgrade and the United States following a codeshare expansion with airberlin.
Under the codeshare agreement, Air Serbia will place its flight code on 28 weekly services operated by airberlin between its Berlin and Düsseldorf hubs and three key US cities including New York, Chicago and Miami.
The new codeshare flights will be available for purchase on 15 January for travel on 1 February through airserbia.com, Air Serbia and airberlin sales offices, and travel agents.
Dane Kondić, Chief Executive Officer of Air Serbia, said: “We are delighted to strengthen our partnership with airberlin to offer guests convenient transatlantic codeshare flights between the United States and Serbia via Germany.
“This development marks the historic return of our JU flight code to the US market and is a key part of our network development strategy as we prepare to commence a five-per-week, non-stop service to New York in June.
“The codeshare flights to New York will complement our planned non-stop service, increasing choice, flexibility and providing travelers with daily connections to this sprawling metropolis of 20 million people.
“The agreement also covers services to Chicago, which has the largest Serbian diaspora in the United States and Miami, a popular beach destination known across the world for its culture and nightlife.
“Our codeshare with airberlin, a fellow member of Etihad Airways Partners, is a great example of how partnerships enable us to expand our network reach, strengthen Air Serbia’s brand presence and enhance connectivity for air travelers in one stroke.”
Air Serbia will launch scheduled long-haul flights to New York in June 2016, reconnecting the Serbian capital of Belgrade to the United States after a break of 24 years and opening a vital new air bridge for the Balkans region.
