Russian transportation ministry and Rosaviatsia statement on extraction of russian citizens from Egypt and arrangements for returning luggage to Russia
The situation remains calm at airports across the Russian Federation and there are no groups of passengers at airports planning travel to Egypt.
According to the Federal Agency for Tourism, as many as 78,000 Russian tourists are currently in the Arab Republic of Egypt. Today, 7 November, empty planes operated by Russian airlines began flying to Egypt in line with the plan for the day:
— To Hurghada — 30 flights;
— To Sharm el-Sheikh — 14 flights;
— To Cairo — No flights planned today.
Flights to Cairo operate four times per week.
Airlines are operating both regularly scheduled flights and special unscheduled flights from the Arab Republic of Egypt for passengers returning to Russia.
As of 4:30 p.m. Moscow time, nine flights from Hurghada to Russia were completed and four flights from Sham el-Sheikh had been completed.
Passengers departing Egypt have been instructed to bring their luggage to the airport, check in for their flight and complete luggage paperwork. An additional tag should be affixed to each item of luggage containing the passenger’s name, address in Russia, flight number, scheduled flight date on the passenger ticker and phone number.
For security reasons passengers are permitted to bring on board only carry-on luggage. Carry-on bags should contain only necessities, which may include baby food and essential medicine.
Other luggage items will be registered with airport ground crew and stored in a specially designated location until they can be transported. Baggage will be transported to Moscow airports aboard Ministry of Emergency Situations aircraft as well as separate aircraft of Russian airlines.
For passengers who do not reside in Moscow, baggage will be transported from Moscow to home airports aboard regularly scheduled flights. Local airports will inform passengers of the arrival of their luggage. Russian Post has been tasked with delivering luggage.
At the Egyptian airports of departure — Cairo, Hurghada and Sham el-Sheikh — special information stands have been set up where representatives of Russian airlines and tour operators are working to ensure passengers are fully informed about next steps related to their travel.
