Lufthansa Systems announced that Istanbul-based Turkish private airline Onur Air has opted for its Lido/Flight 4D solution. This new generation of the proven flight planning solution from Lufthansa Systems offers the airline a modern graphical user interface and extensive automation functions for flight planning and control processes. The two companies recently signed a five-year contract for the solution.

“We compared flight planning solutions from various providers and are firmly convinced that Lufthansa Systems offers a reliable product,” said Teoman Tosun, CEO at Onur Air. “The spectrum and functions of Lido/Flight 4D meet our demands for high quality and cost savings alike. These aspects were key for us.”

The core features of the new flight planning solution are the integrated and continually updated aeronautical database and the so-called optimizer. Based on all flight-related data, weather conditions and the current airspace situation including any restrictions, Lido/Flight 4D calculates the most suitable route for each flight.

Around 120 airlines with a total of more than 6,000 aircraft are currently using the flight planning solution from Lufthansa Systems, which has been successful on the market for more than 20 years. The most recent releases covered certain basic components for migrating to current technologies as well as functional innovations and improvements for takeoff and landing weight optimization, crew briefing and route optimization.

“The contract with our new customer Onur Air is strategically important to us,” said Marco Cesa, Senior Vice President Regional Management EMEA at Lufthansa Systems. “It will enable us to expand our position in the Turkish market. The reliability and flexibility of our product won over the customer and will provide considerable support in the future.”

Onur Air was founded in 1992 in Turkey and is based at Istanbul Atatürk Airport. Now Onur Air primarily operates schedule and charter flights with a fleet of 24 aircraft. The airline’s scheduled flights serve destinations within Turkey as well as cities in Europe and the Middle East.
