Lufthansa officials have confirmed that the airline has stopped its operations in Muscat from October 25.

Last Saturday, Times of Oman had reported that Lufthansa had ended its 35-year-long Muscat operations.

However, in the news story, it was incorrectly reported that that passengers from Oman will be served by Swiss Air.

According to the airline, passengers from Oman will be served by SWISS or Swiss International Air Lines, which is under the Lufthansa Group.

"Swiss Air is a defunct company and no longer exists. Passengers will fly SWISS via Zurich hub and onward to other European destinations or beyond (SWISS does not fly to Frankfurt directly as it goes back to the hub first)," the statement from the airline said.

On the reason behind stopping the operations, the airline said that the move is being done to optimize Lufthansa's portfolio of destinations and gateways across the entire Gulf region.

"As such, Lufthansa is adapting its offer to the demand of each market, working closely with the Group airlines in order to better serve customers across the region," the airline said in a statement.
