Ukraine banned transit of Russian aircraft
The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers banned all flights of Russian airlines over the country, including transit. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk, reports Tass.
The ban on flights of Russian airlines to Ukraine came into force on 25 October. However, they were permitted to conduct transit flights until now. In the beginning of October, the Russian Ministry of Transport estimated the losses of the airlines of Russia and Ukraine on mutual flight restrictions at 7-8 billion rubles a year (kaina usd?).
In September, Kiev decided to impose sanctions against Russian carriers due to their flights to Crimea: over two dozens of carriers including Aeroflot and Transaero were black listed. UTair was the only major Russian air carrier, which was not affected by the restrictions. In response, Moscow has decided to ban all Ukrainian airlines from flying to Russia, which eventually led to a complete stop of direct flights from 25 October.
