Freezing Fog Cancels 58 Flights at Urumqi Airport
China Southern Airlines (CZ) canceled 39 flights at Urumqi Diwopu International Airport (URC) on Monday evening due to that another freezing fog hit the capital city of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The lingering freezing fog shut down Urumqi airport from 9:00 p.m. of Dec. 7. Consequent flights were either canceled or diverted.
News from China Southern said that the heavy fog has scattered from 7:30 a.m. this morning, lifting visibility to 2,500 meters, which was suitable for normal takeoffs and landings. The 8:40 a.m. departure flight of China Southern bound for Aksu was the first to leave Urumqi.
As of 8:30 a.m., China Southern has canceled 11 departure flights and 8 arrival flights this morning, with another diverted.
The freezing fog is forecast to last until this noon.
