Dense Fog Disrupts Air Traffic, Stranding 10,000 Passengers at Xi'an Airport
Dusty weather continued on Tuesday in the capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi Province, disrupting flights and stranding more than 10,000 passengers.
Around 120 domestic and international flights were canceled on Monday due to poor visibility and hundreds of flights were delayed in Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (XIY), the airport said. More than 10,000 passengers have been stranded after heavy fog shrouded the airport.
As of 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday, 186 outbound flights and 119 inbound flights at Xi'an airport were postponed, with 153 flights were canceled, according to flight data by VariFlight.
Visibility at the airport has been reduced to 50 meters in the morning, though it improved after midday.
113 flights had taken off from the airport by 2:48 p.m. The airport has 428 scheduled outbound flights on Tuesday.
Airport authorities have activated an emergency response to the disruption.
