Bomb Hoax Delays Chengdu Airlines Flight for Three Hours at Hangzhou Airport
A bomb hoax made by a male passenger at Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport (HGH) delayed Flight EU2206 of Chengdu Airlines (EU) from Hangzhou to Chengdu for nearly three hours last Thursday night.
According to the airline, the Chengdu-bound flight is estimated to take off from Hangzhou at 8:10 p.m. During the boarding procedure, a middle-aged male passenger claimed that his luggage contained a bomb when a flight attendant helped him lift the luggage to the luggage compartment.
The incident prompted the airport to perform illegal interference handling procedure, clear the aircraft cabin and cargo hold, and evacuate passengers onboard. All passengers went through another round of thorough safety checks.
According to the airport police, no bomb was found but a porcelain gift in the male passenger's luggage after a search of the flight at Hangzhou Airport.
The male passenger allegedly explained later that he was not conscious about blurting out the word "bomb" and regretted his act deeply. Airport police decided to detain him for ten days with a 500 yuan fine accordingly.
The Chengdu-bound aircraft finally took off from Hangzhou Airport at 11:06 p.m., according to VeryZhun, China's leading flight status service provider.
